MOUTH
PIERCING AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
All
oral piercings should be
cleaned after every activity
that involves your mouth.
It is important that you
do not skip cleanings,
but also that you do not
over clean your new piercing
(Yes, there is such a thing!)
Over cleaning will strip
the mouth of natural bacteria
that is needed to heal
properly. Your cleaning
schedule should begin immediately.
Recommended
Cleaning Products: Oral
B Mouthwash (Cut
down 50/50 with water)
DO
NOT USE: Peroxide,
Rubbing alcohol or
any other mouthwash
not listed here. |
| CLEANING |
- Tongue and inner
mouth piercings are
VERY easy to maintain.
Most important thing
to remember: Rinse
after EVERYTHING!!!
- Rinse first thing
in the morning and
last thing at night.
- Rinse after every
meal or snack.
- Rinse after every
cigarette or smokable
drug (although it is
recommended that you
cut out cigarettes
and drugs during the
healing period).
- A good regime to
follow is: Rinse once
an hour for the first
week, once every 2
hours for the second
week and once every
3 hours for the third
week. This is just
an average. If you
are a regular smoker
you will be rinsing
much more then this.

HINTS & ADDED ADVICE |
- If you find that
the mouthwash is bothering
you or you need a change,
a salt-water mix will
work just fine. Mix
¼ teaspoon of Sea salt
into a cup of warm
water. If you can taste
the salt then it is
too strong.
- Stay away from meat
and dairy products,
smoking (cigarettes
and drugs), drinking
alcohol (beer, wine
and dark liquors),
and hot or spicy foods
for the first 48 hours.
These products will
cause unneeded swelling
and the bacteria can
cause infections.
- Refrain from deep
kissing and oral sex
for the first month.
You must treat your
piercing like an open
wound. Any exposure
to other people's bacteria
and germs will increase
the risk of infection
or disease.
- Take it easy. When
eating for the first
few days, have small
meals many times a
day instead of the
usual large 3 meals.
This will make it easier
for your tongue/mouth
to get used to the
new piercing.
Healing
time for most inner mouth
work is VERY fast. Tongue
piercings are healed
in 3-4
weeks.
Do not wait longer then
4 weeks before you have
the barbell switched
in your tongue. Any more
time and the excessive
length will cause tooth
damage and tearing of
the tongue. Please do
not try to change the
jewelry yourself. We
are here to do all the
extra work for you and
are more then happy to
do it. And last but certainly
not least, do not listen
to the advice of friends!
They may be trying to
help but they are not
trained professionals
and could do more damage.
